Hands of Hope creates sewing and handicraft jobs for graduates from the House of Hope program. The anticipated goal is that each woman will become an independent contractor and will successfully run her own small business sewing and creating Hands of Hope products. Through this, each young woman will achieve an improved quality of life for herself and her family.

Getting to Know Your Seamstress, Srei L.

Fun loving and spirited Srei L. came to House of Hope December 2001 after working as a commercial sex worker in Kompong Cham Province. When she heard about the opportunities for education and vocational skills training, she decided to make the effort to try to build a different future for herself.

Her year at the center were filled with mixed emotions as she tried to overcome depression, hopelessness and conflicting desires. Through the consistent encouragement of her instructors, Srei L. made some strides. After a short stint working in a small factory in Phnom Penh, she became one of the contractors for Hands of Hope. She took her training in sewing and applied herself sewing purses. As a newly married woman, she learned to be responsible and grew in maturity. Today Srei L. is pregnant and is expecting her first child around October. Life is not easy for Srei L. but she is able to earn an income that provides for her family. She has seen the God's provision for her and continues to find support from the staff of House of Hope.
